Sustainable resin bound paving
Resin bound paving has genuine environmental advantages – not because we say so, but because of how the material works. This page explains what those advantages are and where they come from.
Why resin bound paving is a sustainable choice
Resin bound paving is fully permeable. Rainwater drains through the surface and into the ground rather than running off across pavements and into drainage systems. This reduces localised flood risk, supports sustainable drainage and meets SuDS requirements without additional soakaways or drainage infrastructure.
The permeability also benefits nearby trees. An impermeable surface blocks groundwater from reaching tree roots – over time, this stresses established trees. A resin bound surface maintains that natural connection, which is why we offer a specialist tree pit specification for high footfall areas around mature trees.
A resin bound surface installed well lasts 20 years or more. That longevity matters environmentally too. A surface that does not need replacing every decade means less material, less groundworks and less disruption over the lifetime of a property.
How we approach our work
We use natural stone aggregate sourced from established UK and European suppliers. The stone is mixed with a UV-stable polyurethane resin – a durable, long-lasting binder that does not require reapplication or surface treatments once installed.
We aim to minimise waste on every installation. Resin bound is a made-to-measure system – material is mixed and laid to the dimensions of the site, with minimal off-cuts or surplus. We take care of site cleanliness throughout and leave the area in good order at the end of every job.
BREEAM credits and commercial compliance
For commercial and development projects, Clearstone resin bound paving qualifies for up to three BREEAM credits under the Pol 03: Surface Water Run-Off category. The porous surface reduces run-off, captures contaminants and supports sustainable drainage strategies.
Full technical documentation for BREEAM submissions and planning applications is available on request.
