Resin bound pool surround for a contemporary home in Brighton
When the owner of this Brighton property decided to install a new swimming pool, he already knew the quality of Clearstone’s work – we had previously laid the front steps to his house. He wanted to know whether resin would be suitable for a pool surround: would it be safe underfoot when wet? The answer was yes. The result is an 80m² Carrera marble surround that is as practical as it looks.

“So happy with the work done for my pool. The finished look is seamless and far better than paving slabs, and the feel underfoot is amazing. Could not be happier”

The result
The finished surround transformed the pool area into something that feels considered and complete. The Carrera marble finish gives a clean, light appearance that suits the contemporary property and creates what the client described as a mediterranean feel. At 80m², the surface wraps the pool seamlessly – no joints, no visible transitions, nothing to distract from the space itself.
The client now has a pool surround that is:
- safe and slip-resistant underfoot, even when wet
- seamless in appearance – no joints or grout lines
- low maintenance and built for outdoor use
- finished with a clean aluminium edge detail
The challenge
The client was installing a new pool and wanted to know whether resin bound paving was suitable for a pool surround – specifically, whether it would be safe when wet. It was a fair question. Hard surfaces around pools can become hazardous, and the wrong choice of material creates a problem that is expensive to correct once the pool is in.
Before installation could begin, we needed to:
- confirm resin was the right material for a poolside application
- agree the right base – concrete was the correct choice here
- specify grip aggregate to ensure safety underfoot when wet
- design a clean edge detail using aluminium edging beads
Why resin worked well for this project
Resin bound paving is well suited to pool surrounds for reasons that go beyond appearance. The surface is porous – water drains through rather than pooling on top – and the natural texture of the stone aggregate provides grip underfoot, even on bare feet. These properties address the safety concern the client raised before the project began.
For this project, resin offered several specific advantages:
- the porous surface drains immediately – no standing water poolside
- grip aggregate added at installation increases traction on bare feet
- Carrera marble gives a light, warm tone that suits the poolside setting
- seamless finish with no grout lines or joints to trap dirt or algae
- low maintenance – no repointing, no algae build-up, easy to clean
